‘The Boys: Holocaust survivors in the Epping Forest District’ exhibition will be postponed until 2021.
The exhibition (funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund) was due to open in May 2020 at Epping Forest District Museum but, because of the impact of Covid-19, it will now be on display from 8 May 2021 until 4 September 2021.
Holmehurst hostel
Holocaust survivors came to Holmehurst hostel, Loughton, in December 1945, therefore rescheduling the exhibition in 2021 will commemorate 75 years since the boys’ arrival.
This exhibition will reveal significant stories from the survivors sent to the district, which we want to share with as many people as possible as an important part of the district’s history.
Project updates
We will continue to provide updates on this project. Many of the project’s other outcomes are ongoing, including developing a history resource for schools on the survivors’ stories.
Care, respect and compassion
Councillor Nigel Bedford, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Partnerships said:
We are thankful to have the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund and all the project partners over this decision. We feel postponing the exhibition means we can still tell the survivors’ stories with the care, respect and compassion they deserve.
