Harlow and Gilston Garden Town scooped a top award at the Essex Housing Awards.
Building Garden Communities
The event saw the partnership of five local councils take the award in the Building Garden Communities category for the best new or planned Garden Communities from design to construction, including zero carbon.
The partnership’s transport vision which focuses on cutting congestion, shortening journey times, improving public transport and enhancing walking and cycling routes was the winning formula in scooping the award.
The Essex Housing Awards recognise high-quality developments and services across the county.
Working in partnership
Epping Forest District, Harlow District, East Herts, Essex County and Hertfordshire County councils are working together in a unique partnership to bring transformational growth in and around Harlow through the Harlow and Gilston Garden Town project.
Epping Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Place and a board member at HGGT, Nigel Bedford said:
This is one of the most exciting regeneration opportunities for sustainable development in the UK and we are proud to be part of it.
The HGGT Vision identifies four new Garden Neighbourhoods in and around Harlow. Three of the sites are within Epping Forest District – Water Lane, Latton Priory and East of Harlow – all bringing new homes, infrastructure and services to future residents of the garden town.
Deborah Fenton, Director of Housing and Property at EFDC, was Highly Commended in the Housing Professional category at the Essex Housing Awards. The category recognises individuals who have made a significant contribution to a housing scheme, strategy or service.
