Epping Forest district residents will get the chance to have their say on the Whipps Cross redevelopment programme.
Whipps Cross Hospital is hosting a virtual public meeting with the local council to present updates on its redevelopment programme, to answer questions and to hear people’s views, which will help further shape the plans.
Hospital spokespeople will be joined on the panel by leaders from other organisations, including Epping Forest District Council, West Essex Clinical Commissioning Group and the wider East London health system, who are working in partnership with the Trust on plans to redevelop the hospital and the land on which it sits.

Building a brighter future
In September 2020, Barts NHS Trust Health published ‘Building a Brighter Future for Whipps Cross – Moving to the next stage’, which offers a summary of the vision for the new Whipps Cross Hospital.
The plans set out in the document, which will be tested more thoroughly in the next, more detailed planning phase, include initial assumptions about the scope and size of a new hospital and plans to improve health and care services for the local population.
Community forum
Last year, the Trust undertook a programme of community and staff engagement involving a broad cross-section of people from both groups.
The next phase of engagement will build on that work to support staff and the community to stay well informed about the progress of the redevelopment as well as provide an opportunity to get involved in testing and informing ideas.
In addition, Barts Health also plan to design and establish a new community forum for the Whipps Cross redevelopment in the autumn.
Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
Alwen Williams, Chief Executive of Barts Health Trust said:
We have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to build a new hospital at Whipps Cross for our patients, our staff and our communities. Our efforts to meet the challenges of COVID 19 only strengthen our resolve to do so and reinforce the case for investment in new facilities.
Working with our health and local government partners, we are absolutely determined to get this right and secure the future for generations to come.
