Epping Forest District Council is undertaking an important health and wellbeing doorstep (observing social distancing at all times) consultation in Waltham Abbey and Ongar.
It’s intended to discover what services and support our residents need as we rebuild and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Around 400 households are being contacted in Waltham Abbey (Paternoster) and Ongar (Shelley) by the Community, Culture and Wellbeing Team to find out more about their mental and physical health.
This pilot project looks at health and wellbeing holistically and information gathered will help develop a multi-agency action plan to deliver projects and interventions that support the council’s ambition to create more resilient and sustainable communities.
Understand residents health and wellbeing needs
Chairman of the Health and Wellbeing board and Cabinet member, Councillor Aniket Patel said:
These doorstep conversations are a first step towards engaging with people locally to discover what they need to support their physical and mental health in the coming months/years.
We’re working with a variety of partners on this project so that together we can provide better support and care for our residents, while co-ordinating services more closely across our different organisations.
In 2019 the board agreed to develop a pilot project looking initially at these two areas of the district. Other areas will be added going forward.
Mental and physical health challenges
Housing & Community Services Portfolio Holder, Councillor Holly Whitbread said:
COVID-19 has brought mental and physical health challenges for many of our residents. We’re hoping this project will offer useful feedback to help us plan how best to support our residents in the future.
So, if you live in either of these areas and get a knock at the door please do chat to the team and share with them how you are feeling and any suggestions you may have to make coming out of lock down easier for you and your family.
