A meeting at Waltham Abbey Leisure Centre last week focussed on plans to identify the health and wellbeing priorities for Ninefields residents.
Multi-agency project addressing health inequalities
Led by Epping Forest District Council, the afternoon saw around 40 representatives from 20 community and statuary organisations such as the NHS, Essex County Council, GPs and the Residents Association come together to discuss issues and ways of tackling them.
Discussions were around:
- access to health and wellbeing services
- community safety
- community engagement
- partnership working.
Positive impact on residents
Next steps for the project are for the partners to implement identified actions and grow the number of partners engaged in the project in order to deliver greater positive impacts on residents’ health. This event was the start of a long-term, multi-agency project to address health inequalities in Ninefields and the wider Paternoster ward of Waltham Abbey.
It marked a new approach, supported by the Head of Public Health at Essex County Council, to address health inequalities by identifying social issues affecting residents. The approach will also form the basis for a model that can be replicated in other areas of the Epping Forest District.
