Have you say on a new approach to restoring and protecting nature in Essex.
Essex County Council’s consultation for the Essex Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) is open and runs until 25 October 2024. If you’re passionate about nature, your feedback is crucial in shaping a new vision for our natural spaces.
What is a Local Nature Recovery Strategy?
The role of our Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) is to provide a county-wide, practical solution for nature recovery. It’s primary purpose is to identify locations to create or improve habitat most likely to provide the greatest benefit for nature and the wider environment.
It identifies new habitats, such as woodlands, grasslands, and urban habitats, that can be created, and suggest actions for nature recovery within them.
Each LNRS will:
- Agree priorities for nature’s recovery
- Map the most valuable existing areas for nature
- Map specific proposals for creating or improving habitat for nature and wider environmental goals

Nature is our life support system
Councillor Ken Williamson, responsible for Shaping Our District said:
Nature is so important. It provides clean air, water and food, essential for our survival and wellbeing. It also drives economic activity providing the food on our plates and the clothes we wear. In essence, nature is our life support system.
The Local Nature Recovery Strategy will identify practical, achievable proposals developed with the input of people who know and understand the area.
Whether you are an individual, group or organisation, please take a few moments to share your thoughts to help us to understand what we can do together to help nature to flourish in Essex and the Epping Forest district.
