Gas safety checks and fire risk assessments are vital in ensuring people’s homes are safe.
Gas safety checks for council tenants
The latest guidance from the Government is that we must keep doing annual gas safety checks during this coronavirus pandemic.
If you receive a letter about a gas safety check, do not ignore it. You must make arrangements to be at home to let our engineer gain access. When the engineer arrives please give them access to do their work.
Our engineers have been issued with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and hand sanitisers. They will follow the Governments social distancing guidance and we ask tenants to stay in a different room while the work is being carried out.
Call our Housing Neighbourhoods team on 01992 564765 if:
- You are self-isolating
- You are currently showing symptoms of COVID-19 (a new persistent cough or a fever)
- You have any other concerns and would like to discuss your gas safety check
Fire risk assessments for council tenants and leaseholders living in flats
Fire risk assessments are vital to minimise the risk of injury or loss of life in the event of a fire. Once we have identified a risk, we must take appropriate action to control that risk.
The latest advice from the Health and Safety Executive is that we must keep doing Fire Safety Risk Assessments during this coronavirus pandemic.
Help us to keep you safe. Keep your communal area clear from personal belongings, rubbish and obstruction. Visit our Fire safety in council homes page if you are unsure about what is and isn’t permitted under the policy.
If you receive a letter asking to remove personal belongings from a communal area, remove them immediately. If you don’t remove your belongings, we will return to clear them away and comply with the Fire Risk Assessment. Allow us to do our work and follow the social distancing guidance at all times. Residents should stay in their homes until work has been completed.
Call our Housing Estate and Land Officers on 01992 564184 if:
- You are self-isolating and receive a 7 day notice requiring removal of personal belongings from a communal area
- You have concerns about a communal area
