A new goal post has been installed to bring a disused football pitch back to life for the community.
The installation was requested by Limes Farm residents who worked with Epping Forest District Council to organise the new goal post. Plans are also being considered to fully reinstate the pitch in the future.
The post was installed on Thursday 26 November on the football pitch at the Limes Farm Estate in Chigwell and will benefit the whole Limes Farms community. A celebratory opening event is due take place once lockdown restrictions are eased.
Supporting the aspirations
Councillor Holly Whitbread, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Community said:
We are delighted to be working with and supporting the aspirations of our residents at Limes Farm.
This marks the first of several estate enhancements that we are working on with Limes Farm residents. It also supports the council’s ambition to create great estates where people want to live and support the health and wellbeing of our communities.
The recent months of lockdown have demonstrated more than ever before the importance of our outdoor spaces and facilities in the local area.
What residents think
Neal Allden, who initially requested the goal post said:
Limes Farm residents keep on scoring and achieving our goals for the community with great support from Epping Forest District Council.
Rupert Nelson said:
It’s fantastic to see Epping Forest District Council and Limes Farm residents working in such close partnership to reinstate our football pitch for the benefit of the residents of Limes Farm and beyond. We are obviously only halfway there, but I feel a penalty shootout contest is coming!
Younger residents of the estate are excited to play football with the new goal post too:
Football makes me happy and smile.
Football to me is magic, whenever I score a goal it makes me happy.
I like playing football because you get to kick the ball and I like that.
