An Epping Forest District initiative that’s been adopted by Jobcentres across the UK has been praised by a Government Minister.
Raising awareness and understanding of domestic abuse
Mims Davies MP, Minister for Social Mobility, Youth and Progression was at Loughton Jobcentre last week to hear how the team had embraced the J9 domestic abuse training offered through EFDC.
Caroline Wiggins, the Council’s specialist Technical Services invited colleagues at the Loughton Jobcentre to join the J9 training which aims to raise awareness and understanding of employees in the public and voluntary sectors around the complex issue of domestic abuse.
J9 initiative was set up in memory of Janine Mundy (AKA J9), a mother of two, who was killed by her estranged husband.

Training for Jobcentre employees
From that one session the Loughton team took on the challenge of training colleagues in Jobcentres around Essex. Now it has been extended to all Jobcentres in the country.
Caroline Wiggins said:
Mims was really keen to hear how Lauren Kilby, Dawn Fountain and colleagues took J9 and embedded it nationally within the Department of Work and Pensions.
