About the job
The Council’s Community Safety Team are seeking to recruit a CCTV Support Officer to work in its small but very demanding CCTV section reporting to the CCTV Operations Officer. The Council is responsible for many public spaces and internal CCTV systems around the district and as a result, enquiries for CCTV assistance for crime and other incidents are received on a daily basis.
The successful candidate will join a team helping to manage and develop its CCTV service. You will ensure systems are functioning correctly and take appropriate action when they are not; you will also help produce innovative ideas and solutions for the design of new fit for purpose systems. You will ensure CCTV evidence requests are lawful and justified and presented in compliance with operating policy. Therefore, it is essential that you maintain a current and up to date knowledge of technology to ensure a high level of service to the public.
The successful candidate must be enthusiastic and confident using computers and computer based hardware and must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. You will be required to use your own initiative and work under pressure, sometimes alone, to achieve set deadlines. Good communication skills are essential as the role will require you to liaise with members of the public, police, insurance companies and other service areas of the Council and elected representatives. Duties will include answering telephone enquiries, taking messages accurately and on occasions you will be required to communicate with police via radio whilst operating various CCTV systems.
You will need excellent written skills as you will be required to correspond by email and letters as well as be required to write police witness statements and collate video evidence. On occasions you will need to write reports for consideration of Managers.
We are looking for a team player to join this exciting but pressurised environment. This is a rare opportunity where you will receive all the training required to fulfil the role which will provide you with the ability to progress your career in the area of CCTV.
You will need to be flexible and prepared to work out of hours and occasional weekends when required, sometimes at short notice. Due to the demands of the post, you will need to be physically fit. In addition, the post will require a full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle for business purposes for which an essential car allowance is payable.
Please note that this post is subject to passing a police vetting check.
The Council are currently undertaking a review of its pay and benefits and the salary stated above is subject to change. If you are shortlisted, the proposed pay rates will be discussed during the interview process. It is not expected that salaries will be less than that stated above.
