About the job
We are seeking an experienced safeguarding officer who has current and detailed knowledge in respect of safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Candidates will be expected to fully understand the role that the council plays in safeguarding and its key responsibilities and duties under Section 11 and 47 of the Children Act 2004. Awareness of protecting vulnerable adults from harm and exploitation is also desirable, as is knowledge of Domestic abuse and violence, child sexual exploitation and ‘honour’ based abuse.
The role will include, amongst others:
- Acting as first point of contact for safeguarding referrals and concerns
- Delivery of a council-wide safeguarding training programme
- Promoting safeguarding across the council in order that safeguarding is core to the work of key service areas
- Support and development for the council’s safeguarding leads
- Play a lead role in the council’s safeguarding working group
This is an operational role within the our Communities and Partnerships Service and the postholder will work closely with the full time safeguarding officer on cases generated from across the council.
The post is subject to an Essex Police Management vetting check and the postholder is required to have a clean driving license and use of a car.
