Boxing, circuit training, skipping were just some of the activities highlighted at the opening of a new Youth Club for 11 – 18-year-olds at Limes Farm Community Centre.
More activities to be added
Computer gaming will be added soon as membership increases as will mentoring services. Youth leaders from Youth Unity lead on all activities along with a boxing coach.
Supported by Active Essex and the BBC the venture is a partnership between Epping Forest District Council’s Community, Culture and Wellbeing service, Community Safety Partnership and Youth Unity.
Activities are available to boys and girls with the aim of engaging them with sport, while also building life skills and helping them improve their confidence, self-esteem and ambition.
Among those attending the opening evening were Council Chairman Mary Sartin and Vice-Chairman Darshan Sunger.
Empowering young people
Chairman of the Council, Cllr Sartin said:
It is lovely to see young people and youth workers coming together in such a worthwhile project.
This new club aims to empower young people through sports and community development. There is a real need for this kind of thing and I am so proud that our council can forge partnerships like this to support our young people in this way.
Hire of the hall until July has come from BBC funding from a short film produced on the estate. Epping Forest Community Safety Partnership is funding staff from Youth Unity until the end of March.
Youth Unity has received funding from Active Essex for equipment and they are also applying for other funds to continue the project from April 2023.
