Celebrating World Radio Day

Resident looking at vintage radio

Residents at the Barchester Ashlar House Care Home in Epping go back in time to celebrate World Radio Day on 13 February 2021.

Residents at the Barchester Ashlar House Care Home in Epping enjoyed another journey back in time when Epping Forest District Museum loaned them vintage radios to celebrate World Radio Day on 13 February 2021.

Virtual workshop

In spite of lockdown restrictions, the museum was able to safely support the home in engaging residents with fun activities. Photographs and videos of some of the larger radios in the museum stores were shown in a virtual workshop alongside some vintage portable radios that residents could enjoy in the home.

Support local residents

Rita Green, the home’s lifestyle activities co-ordinator said:

Many residents grew up listening to the radio, so it was a lovely reminiscing session too.

Cllr Holly Whitbread, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Community Services said:

We are so pleased that our museum service is able to support local residents in care homes to enjoy safe, fun and engaging activities at this challenging time. This lovely project has been a source of enjoyment to the care home residents in lockdown.
