Epping Forest District Museum team is proud to announce an exciting new project is underway to review and reimagine its collection.
Research focus
From costume to archaeology, social history to art and everything in between, the Review and Reimagine Project will enable the Epping Forest District Museum team to better understand and care for the items in the collection.
Phase 1 of the project began in January 2021 and focuses on researching objects with support from other museums, local groups, volunteers and staff to help discover any hidden or forgotten stories.
The team is excited to be learning more about the different objects which will enable visitors:
- Increased access to the collection and its stories
- More items being displayed
- The opportunity for more behind-the-scenes tours
- The collection being made available online
Rehoming objects
Epping Forest District Museum tells the story of the people and events that shaped the district.
Over the years items will have been added to the collection that don’t reflect this and would be better off elsewhere. The Review and Reimagine Project will enable the team to understand those objects more and find better homes for them.
Reimagining the collection
Councillor Holly Whitbread, Housing and Community Services Portfolio Holder said:
I welcome the change that this review brings and am looking forward to hearing more from the team as they rethink how we share the collection, enhance the visitor experience and ensure our stories can be passed on for generations.
This vital piece of work is helping to protect the heritage of our district and I am confident that the success of the Review and Reimagine Project will be felt by visitors for years to come.
