Construction of the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) new airbase at North Weald Airfield, began last week, at North Weald Airfield.
Councillor Richard Bassett, Chairman of Epping Forest District Council, joined other VIP guests, charity trustees, staff and volunteers and EHAAT’s critical care team to dig the first turf for the start of construction work on the site.
The base is scheduled to be finished in spring 2021. It will house two helicopters, rapid response vehicles and provide facilities for training, mentoring, patient liaison and fundraising.
Fantastic asset
This new site will also host cross-training sessions with other emergency services, which will benefit the local pre-hospital care community.
As part of the new airbase, there will be a dedicated interactive visitor centre which will include a helicopter viewing area and allow more engagement with the local community.
Councillor Bassett said: “This new airbase will be a fantastic asset for the whole of Essex and Herts. It complements services already provided at the airfield. It will be a great addition to the district and to the community.”
