The latest exhibition at Epping Forest District Museum is Game Plan: Board Games Rediscovered.

The Exhibition

The exhibition is on loan from the V&A’s Museum of Childhood and opens on Saturday 25 September.

Together with family favourites such as Cluedo and Trivial Pursuit, and traditional games like chess, the exhibition features historical board games including ‘The Game of the Goose’ and other beautifully designed games from the 18th and 19th centuries.

With hands-on activities, an exploration of design and culture, and the chance to snap an Instagramable-moment behind the bars in Monopoly’s jail, this free exhibition offers fun for all ages.

Puzzle & Games Club

Alongside the exhibition a free Puzzle & Games Club for all ages is being launched.

  • Where: St Martin’s Church Rooms, Castle Street, Ongar
  • When: Every Thursday from Thursday 16 September
  • Time: 10 am to 12 noon

The Puzzle & Games Club, run by Epping Forest District Council Community, Culture and Wellbeing team is launched in response to a survey carried out between lockdowns which identified social isolation as a serious issue facing local communities.

The club provides an opportunity to foster friendships over a cup of tea, a chat and some friendly rivalry over a board game.

The Core Gallery at Epping Forest District Museum will be closed between Thursday 16 September and Friday 24 September for the exhibition set up.
