Have your say on our sustainable and healthy living consultation by attending an online Community Q&A on 30 November from 6pm to 7.30pm.
Residents should reserve their place emailing ldfconsult@eppingforestdc.gov.uk. Harlow and Gilston Garden Town and Epping Forest District Council are asking residents what they would like to see from new build homes and communities.
This is part of the sustainable and healthy living consultation that started Monday 2 November.
6 week consultation
Running online for 6 weeks, the consultation focuses on what sustainable living should be like, both in places today plus the planned villages and neighbourhoods in the Garden Town and across the district.
Gilston’s Garden Town villages will be the first of the new Garden Town neighbourhoods and this is currently in Planning and being considered by both East Herts Council and Harlow Council.
The consultation will look at how the councils can support residents to lead healthy lives, improve the health and wellbeing of the community, reduce pollution and improve the quality of the air we breathe by dramatically reducing harmful vehicle emissions.
Get involved
Epping Forest District Council’s Planning Portfolio Holder, Cllr Nigel Bedford said:
The consultation for EFDC’s Sustainability Guidance covers the district’s towns, villages and green spaces.
We are a ‘green’ district dominated by the Forest, the Lea Valley Regional Park, and miles upon miles of farmland. But we are also located right on the edge of London. The M25 and M11 bring air pollution into the heart of our greenest spaces.
Development and sustainability must go hand in hand if we are to protect and improve our district for future generations and I would urge local residents to get involved.
Exciting community regeneration project
Garden Town Chairman, Guy Nicholson said:
Harlow & Gilston Garden Town is one of the most exciting community regeneration projects in the UK.
It places Harlow at the front of creating a 21st century Garden Town, capturing and investing into all that is best of the New Town, while creating a great place for us and the next generation to live, learn and work in.
Please do take a moment to respond to the consultation because regeneration is not just led by building things. Real and lasting regeneration is led by you and the places you want to live in and see built.
Your comments will help the Garden Town team deliver a place where we can all thrive and prosper in buildings that support us to realise our ambitions and aspirations.
