Councillors have a packed agenda of items for consideration at next week’s Overview and Scrutiny committee.
The virtual meeting takes place on Zoom on Thursday 19 November 2020 at 7pm and will be webcast for subsequent viewing.
UK Innovation Corridor
The UK Innovation Corridor – formerly the London-Stansted-Cambridge Consortium – is high on the agenda.
Members are keen to know what benefits the district can expect from its work. Director John McGill and chairman, Dr Ann Limb have been invited to the virtual meeting.
Members want to know how the district can better collaborate with the UKIC and why there’s been a name change. UKIC has space for development, it is well connected with potential for increased transport growth through London Stansted and London City airports and St Pancras with its fast rail connections to Europe.
Along the corridor there are 4,500 knowledge intensive companies within 25 miles of Cambridge, a city with more registered patents per capita than Silicon Valley!
UKIC is operated through a voluntary body, known as the London Stansted Cambridge Consortium (LSCC) which provides advocacy, brokerage, and coordination on behalf of UKIC’s partners.
Harlow and Gilston Garden Town
At the same time the fast-growing Harlow and Gilston Garden Town, a partnership project involving Epping Forest, East Herts, Harlow districts and Hertfordshire and Essex County Councils, provides a unique and distinctive strategic advantage.
Civic Offices refurbishment
An update on the council’s accommodation review – which involves total refurbishment of the Civic Offices in Epping – will show the contract continues to be within budget and on track to deliver a space for employees and our community early in 2021.
