DaRT87 Demand Responsive Transport
DaRT87 is the new pre-booked minibus service trial replacing the Arriva 87 that ceased operation on 31 December 2020.
The service is operated by our trusted partners Epping Forest Community Transport (EFCT).

Where does it run?
DaRT87 is suitable for those needing an early start at work, such as NHS staff and other key workers, plus those wishing to use the tube for a London commute. Key locations covered include:
- Princess Alexandra and St Margaret’s hospitals
- Debden and Epping (including both tube stations)
- Epping Forest District Council civic centre
- Epping Forest Shopping Park
- Theydon Bois and Epping Green
- Staple Tye and central Harlow
Trial period
The trial runs between 2 January and 31 March and if successful, may be extended in duration and/or areas covered.
Until 21 January all journeys booked will be free so you can try the service (registration is still required).
Off peak type service approximately hourly, with fares the same as what Arriva were charging for the 87.
Cashless operation
Either contactless payment on board or pre-payment for block booking by online banking, or a new app also under trial. Concessionary passes are accepted in line with Essex County Council.
Covid secure operation in line with applicable national guidelines – please wear a mask unless exempt.
You must register in advance
You must register in advance to use this service – usually EFCT charge £15 per year membership, but as an introductory offer for the trial, you will not have to pay.
Once registered, you must generally pre-book each journey or block of journeys to ensure a seat. This is at the driver’s discretion, you may be able to board on a hail and ride basis, but only if they know that occupancy ahead will not exceed the COVID guidelines applicable at the time.
Express interest in the trial and answer a few questions to help us understand demand
You will then hear back from EFCT with full instructions.
Journeys are bookable by phone, email or via the Flexiroute app (app not available from day one).
Vehicle location is viewable via smartphone using the GPS Trackershop app

We may approach you for your feedback, plaudits or improvements through the trial.
The trial will only continue beyond March or to other locations if the service meets targets based on passenger numbers, cost-effectiveness and user satisfaction, so please use it and tell your colleagues and friends.
