Permitted development and exemptions
You can make some changes or improvements without planning permission, this is known as permitted development. Changes without building regulation approval is known as an exemption.
If your project is permitted development
If you think your project meets the permitted development criteria you can apply for a lawful development certificate which is confirmation the building work is ‘lawful’ and doesn’t require planning permission.
To find information on what work you can do depending on the property type.
