A £1.3m programme of works is currently underway at Ongar Leisure Centre, aimed at extending its future life for at least another 5 years.
Epping Forest District Council, in Partnership with Places Leisure, is undertaking major maintenance over the summer and autumn.
The work will be carried out in 2 phases:
- Phase One will focus initially on roof repairs
- Phase Two starts at the end of summer and focuses on the pool including a complete renewal of the swimming pool plant and upgrades to the electrical systems
Reduce the carbon footprint
Cllr Nigel Avey, Cabinet Member for Environmental and Technical Services said:
These works will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the Ongar Leisure Centre and extend the useful life of the building by at least 5 years.
The pool hall will be closed until the work is completed towards the end of this year and hopefully by then our leisure centres will be fully back up and running after the COVID-19 lockdown.
