This year’s annual canvass of electors will be starting shortly.
It is taking place during a challenging public health situation so please respond online, by phone or by text wherever possible.
By law, we must carry out an annual canvass across the Epping Forest district to check that the information on the electoral register is correct and up to date.
You will not be able to vote if your name is not on the register. You may also find it difficult getting credit for things like a mortgage, bank loan or even a mobile phone contract. As the May 2020 elections were cancelled, registering now means you’ll be able to vote in May 2021.
What has changed
New legislation allows national and local data matching steps to be carried out before the canvass starts to make it more efficient and reduce costs.
Names and addresses already on the Epping Forest District Council electoral register will be compared with information held by the Department for Work and Pensions and local authority databases. Data matching is fully automated, so we only know the outcome, not how the result is achieved.
What to do
Forms for the 2020 annual canvass of electors in Epping Forest district will be going out on Friday 31 July.
The envelope will be addressed to The Residents with instructions on the outside about what you need to do.
The result of the data matching determines what type of form you receive and if you need to respond or not.
If you receive a white form, you must check:
- If the information is correct – you do not need to respond, and the process is complete
- If the information is incorrect or you need to delete, amend or add names – follow the instructions on the form
White form received = no changes to the details = no response needed
If you receive a yellow form, you must check:
- If the information is correct – you must confirm the details by following the instructions on the form
- If the information is incorrect or you need to delete, amend or add names – you must follow the instructions on the form
Yellow form received = you must respond = online, by phone or by text
