999 Day

999 day 2025

Community news, News

Show your support for the NHS and Emergency Services by celebrating Emergency Services Day, on 9 September.

Emergency Services Day (999 Day) is a national day to remind communities across the UK to come together to honour and appreciate those who selflessly protect our safety and liberty every day of the year.

Emergency Service Flag

In honour of this day, the 999 Emergency Service Flag will be proudly raised at the Civic Offices in Epping on Tuesday 9 September.

The flag symbolises our community’s appreciation for the tireless work performed by our emergency services, who operate around the clock 365 days of the year, to protect us all.

Community spirit in action

I’m proud to support Emergency Services Day. It is a moment to recognise and thank the incredible individuals who serve in the NHS and across our emergency services. Their dedication, professionalism, and courage are the backbone of our communities.

999 Day is not only about appreciation – it is also about raising awareness. It reminds all of us to use emergency services responsibly, to learn lifesaving skills, and to explore the many ways we can contribute, whether through a career or volunteering.

Volunteers such as Special Constables, Retained Firefighters, NHS Community Responders, St John Ambulance members, RNLI crews, Search and Rescue teams, and Coastguards play a vital role in keeping us safe. Their selfless service is a powerful example of community spirit in action, and we owe them our deepest gratitude.
