Affordable housing takes shape at Roundhills
The Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) Housing Development Team, in partnership with Qualis Commercial, are transforming the former swimming pool site at Roundhills, in Waltham Abbey, into 28 houses for affordable rent.
This development includes a mix of 22 two-bedroom terraced houses and 6 three-bedroom terraced houses, arranged over 5 blocks.
The development is making good progress and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Energy-efficient housing
These homes are being constructed by 3ACE using a timber-frame construction system and sustainable design, including the use of air-source heat pumps and electric vehicle charging points. This approach will deliver high-quality, energy-efficient housing for local residents.
Maximising dormant land
Previously developed land, commonly referred to as brownfield land, offers a sustainable solution for building new homes. Utilising sites like the former swimming pool helps reduce the dependence on greenfield land for new housing developments.
Affordable housing for our community
This project demonstrates the council’s dedication to providing much-needed affordable housing for our community.
The progress at Roundhills is testament to the hard work and collaboration between our Housing Development Team and Qualis.
By creating energy-efficient properties, we are continuing to set a standard for our housebuilding programme, reflecting our commitment to sustainability and delivering high quality housing for the future.
Portfolio Holder for Housing Councillor Nigel Bedford
We are on track to deliver these homes before the end of the year and look forward to handing over to the Housing Development Team and seeing the first families move in.
These are high-quality, family-sized houses and we have every confidence they will add great benefit to the council’s affordable housing portfolio.
