Epping Forest, along with more than 450 councils around the country, will be raising the Armed Forces flag to commemorate Armed Forces Day on Saturday 29 June.
The flag will be flying all week to show our support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, from currently serving personnel to Service families, veterans and cadets.
Respect, admiration and gratitude
Cllr Les Burrows, the Chairman of Council said:
Today provides us with the opportunity to show our support for those who serve in His Majesty’s Armed Forces, and to those who have served in previous generations.
Recently we have witnessed the poignant commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day landings and we British have traditionally been very good at paying tribute to past heroes, past sacrifices and past historic events.
We owe an incredible debt of gratitude to the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. They are the ultimate protectors of our peace and security and indeed, of our whole way of life. They are not there just to protect us from conflict but are there in the front line of natural or man-made disasters.
Armed Forces Day is a celebration of our veterans’ community too, whatever their age. They have our respect, our admiration and our gratitude.
They are an integral part of who we are as a nation, and an inspiration to us all.
As a nation, we continue to be indebted to those who today risk their lives in many places around the world and to the veterans whose service we will never forget and always honour.
