The Energy Company Obligation (ECO4 ) and Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS)
The aim of these schemes is to support low income and vulnerable households to install energy saving measures and improve the efficiency of the lowest rated homes.
Households will be considered if they are:
- Living in fuel poverty
- On a low income
- Vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home
To be referred for the ECO4 and GBIS Flex schemes you must be living in Essex and be a homeowner, private tenant or landlord.

For Essex residents who want help with the cost of energy and are looking to go green and save. This can include home improvements, financial help and tips on energy saving.
Home upgrade grant
Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 is a Government-funded local authority scheme for those properties that are off gas heating. The scheme is to deliver energy-saving improvements to the homes of people who struggle to pay their heating bills and keep their homes warm in the winter. If you own your own home, or are a tenant, or a private landlord with tenants, you could qualify to apply for energy-saving improvements
