Creating a buzz for the new leisure centre
Pupils from Epping Primary School work with Epping Leisure Centre contractor Pellikaan to create un-bee-liveable bug hotel.
As part of the new Epping Leisure Centre project, Pellikaan spent an afternoon with Year 1 pupils from Epping Primary School to build a bug hotel from recycled materials.
Pellikaan staff and primary school pupils were joined by Epping Forest District Council Chairman and Vice-Chairman, members of the Cabinet and staff who all learnt about the importance of biodiversity and protecting local ecosystems through building the new insect hotel.
The hotel offers a safe space and encourages insects to thrive. The new habitat was made from wooden pallets and other recycled materials from the leisure centre construction site.
Another bug hotel will be built at Ivy Chimneys School later this month.

From gyms to gardens
These sessions are part of Pellikaan’s promise to give back to the local community by supporting and promoting environmental responsibility during the construction of the new leisure centre.
Sustainability and biodiversity
This was such an enjoyable afternoon. It was great to see so much creativity and enthusiasm. Using the recyclable materials to build the bug hotels not only sparked everyone’s imaginations but also taught all of us a valuable lesson about sustainability and biodiversity.
The workshops show another side to the brilliant work Pellikaan is doing as well as create a buzz around the amazing new leisure facility opening in Epping later this year.
