Draft CIL charging schedule approved
At a cabinet meeting on 21 July 2025, councillors discussed the draft community infrastructure levy, also known as a CIL.
The CIL is a charge on new developments to help fund new infrastructure such as roads, schools and healthcare, that are needed to support new developments in the area.
Cabinet approved the draft community infrastructure levy charging schedule to go to public consultation.
The consultation will run from Monday 28 July 2025 to 5pm on Tuesday 9 September 2025.

Have we got the balance right?
People often ask me when new developments are approved ‘What about the infrastructure?’ – well this is exactly what the CIL money is for. It can be spent on physical infrastructure like roads, transport links and utilities, or on social infrastructure like schools, healthcare facilities, and recreational spaces. It can also be spent improving existing infrastructure.
Essentially, CIL ensures that new developments contribute financially to the infrastructure they rely on, helping to reduce the impact of growth on local communities.
We’re consulting to find out if we have got the balance right. We want to maximise income for new infrastructure projects while also ensuring that proposed rates do not render new developments financially unviable.
Let us know what you think.
