Ongar is set to get its first public fast-charging points for electric vehicles.
4 electric vehicle charging points
4 rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging points have been installed at a brand new InstaVolt charging station at Bansons Lane Car Park, Ongar and will go live on Wednesday 22 March.
Bansons Lane car park is an Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) public pay & display car park and the project is a partnership between EFDC and InstaVolt, the UK’s leading public electric vehicle charging network.
Bansons Lane car park
EFDC first partnered with InstaVolt for EV charging points in its Oakwood Hill East car park last year. Following this success, the Bansons Lane car park in Ongar was identified as another site to expand the number of public chargers offered in the Epping Forest area.
Access to the EV charging points will be available 24/7, although existing car park restrictions during operational hours will apply and users should refer to the current car park tariff boards.
Reducing the district’s carbon footprint
The installation of EV chargers in the district aims to not only encourage use of electric vehicles but also improve air quality and reduce the district’s carbon footprint as well as helping the Council meet its commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030.
EV infrastructure in the district
Cabinet Member for Internal Resources, Councillor Sam Kane said:
This is all part of our plan to facilitate the use of electric vehicles among residents/visitors to our district.
We have a fleet of our own electric vehicles so know how important it is to be able to charge your electric cars/vans when out and about. More, similar installations will be made across the district in the future.
Nathan Piper, Head of Sales & Business Development at InstaVolt commented:
We’re delighted to open another site in partnership with Epping Forest District Council, following the success of our first site at Oakwood Hill Industrial Estate, Loughton.
We recognised the continuing need for greater EV infrastructure in the district and the four new rapid chargers at Bansons Lane will support local residents and visitors with a 24/7 charging option.
