Essential alarm testing
Essential fire alarm tests are to be carried out every week at the Cottis Yard multi-storey car park from Tuesday 8 July.
This routine testing is essential to ensure that the fire alarm system is fully functional, correctly maintained and meets national safety standards.
Regular testing helps us ensure that in the event of a real fire, the system performs effectively to protect people.
Fire alarm testing details
- When: Every Tuesday from 8 July 2025
- Time: Between 11:30am and 12 noon
- Duration: 3 to 5 minutes
Signage will be displayed around the car park to remind users of the weekly testing. A technician will be on site each Tuesday between 11.30am and 12 noon. The alarm will sound for approximately 3 to 5 minutes to allow the technician to walk through the car park, making relevant checks before silencing the alarm.
Committed to fire safety
We understand the alarm at this car park is a sensitive subject and really appreciate residents’ understanding as this vital safety measure is carried out. We hope that with a regular time for testing, residents nearby will not find this intrusive as they will be aware that it will end within 5 minutes.
There will be no need to evacuate the building during the tests.
As part of our fire risk assessment procedures in all council-owned buildings, regular testing of the alarm systems is essential to ensure everyone’s safety. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of fire safety. I want to thank residents again for their continued cooperation.
