Ford RideLondon-Essex returns in 100 days’ time.
The organisers of the world’s greatest festival of cycling have been working with communities across the route to improve the event for 2024.
- 100 days before Ford RideLondon-Essex, the sportive route is confirmed for this year’s event on Sunday 26 May
- Organisers engaging with communities to create access plans to ensure impact is minimised
- Minor change to route due to a bridge closure in Woodford
- Route now passes through Chigwell and Buckhurst Hill
Minor route change
This year’s event, which includes challenge rides of 100, 60 and 30 miles, takes place on Sunday 26 May, on largely the same route as last year.
However, a minor change has been made to a section of the route on the border of Essex and London. The route will now pass through Chigwell and Buckhurst Hill. This change is necessary due to a closed bridge on Broadmead Road, Woodford.
Community engagement and road closures
In the coming weeks, all addresses with postcodes on the route will receive a leaflet containing key information about the event, including maps and road closure timings.
Community Access Plans will be drawn up to minimise the impact of road closures on the communities of Chigwell and Buckhurst Hill. Access plans are made for the entire route to provide access options for local residents, businesses and organisations.
A full review of these access plans has been undertaken alongside members of the community to enhance them for 2024. This is part of a much wider engagement programme by the Ford RideLondon-Essex team and Essex County Council to help communities prepare for the race returning in 2024, including how they can be part of the event.
This could be anything from creating community fun days to having a ride pit-stop in their location where riders can stop and purchase food and drink, helping to raise funds for local causes or businesses.
£85 million raised for charity
This year’s Ford RideLondon is the tenth edition of the event and it’s the third year the mass participation routes have headed out from London to Essex before returning to the capital.
More than £85 million has been raised for charity by participants taking part in the event since the first race in 2013.
