High Sheriff of Essex visit
The High Sheriff of Essex met with the Epping Forest Community Safety Partnership to learn about community projects in the district.
Julie Fosh, the High Sheriff of Essex, visited the Civic Offices on Wednesday 30 July.
She was shown presentations on fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour, Operation Make Safe (a national initiative to raise awareness of child sexual exploitation) and cuckooing along with the Safer Streets projects the Community Development and Wellbeing team has carried out in Oakwood Hill in Loughton and Ninefields in Waltham Abbey.
Remarkable projects
The number of projects being undertaken by our Community Safety Partnership is quite remarkable. It really shows the wonderful work being done with various partners to support residents, create safer places and bring the community together.
I’m so pleased that the High Sheriff was able to come along and see what work is being done in the district. Thank you to Julie Fosh for visiting.
Councillor Paul Keska, Cabinet Member for Regulatory, Technical and Community Safety Services
Youth Council vaping report
The Epping Forest Youth Council presented about its vaping awareness report 2025 followed by Arc Theatre Company who spoke about their Not so Sweet educational roadshow in schools, which also deals with vaping.
High Sheriff award
During her visit, the High Sherrif presented Waltham Abbey Community Champion Sue Smith with a surprise High Sheriff award for the great work she does in her community. Sue delivers regular community litter picks, community catch-ups at Waltham Abbey Fire Station and supports EFDC Community Development and Wellbeing team events.
Improving community cohesion
Our community champions, volunteers and local residents work so hard in improving community cohesion, safety and general wellbeing in the areas where they live.
I’m so pleased that community champion, Sue Smith, has been recognised for her wonderful contributions.
Our youth council members work hard behind the scenes looking into issues affecting our young people. Their vaping awareness report is an excellent example of just one of their projects.
Councillor Kaz Rizvi, Cabinet Member for Community, Health and Wellbeing
