Make sure your details are correct

Community news, Democracy news, News

Make sure your correct details are on the electoral register – please do not ignore the letter dropping through your letterbox soon.

The 2025 annual canvass of electors has started. Some residents received emails which required a response by 1 August 2025. We are now continuing the process with letters going out in the post on Thursday 21 August 2025.

Essential checks required

It is essential that you are registered, as it can affect your ability to get a mortgage, loan or even a mobile phone contract. It will also affect your ability to vote in future elections.

By law, we must conduct an annual canvass across the Epping Forest district to check that the information on the electoral register is correct and up to date. The envelope dropping through letterboxes will be addressed to The Residents with instructions on the outside about what you need to do.

White or yellow forms

White forms

Properties receiving a white letter only need to respond if any of the information is incorrect or if you need to delete, amend, or add names. Just follow the instructions in the letter.

Yellow letter

Properties receiving a yellow letter must respond, even if there are no changes to the details. Just follow the instructions in the letter.

Respond online

If you have access to the internet, a landline or a mobile phone then please respond online, by phone or by text as soon as possible and by 5 September at the latest.

If you are responding using any of the automated response options available, you will need your 2-part security code, which you will find on the front of your letter.

Failure to respond means council officers will have to chase this up – putting additional burden on Council Tax.

How to make changes

There are 3 ways you can make changes:

  1. Make changes online
  2. Telephone 0800 8840701
  3. Text NO CHANGE to 80212

Please respond if you are required to do so as soon as you receive the form.

To help cut costs and make things simpler for you, where we can, we will be communicating with you digitally in the future. Please provide an email address and / or phone number.
