Businesses across Essex are being asked to join TuckIN to help ensure healthier food is being served across the county.
TuckIN
TuckIN is an Essex-wide project for food premises to reduce fats, salt, sugar, calories and serve sensible portions to make food healthier.
The campaign has been running for 10 years and has recently boosted its profile with new premises signing up to participate.
The project is funded by Essex County Council.
Benefits for businesses
Businesses that are part of the campaign will receive a training pack and 1 free place on a Level 2 nutrition course, as well as information and promotional materials to display in their shop windows.
They will also get support in developing their businesses in different areas, such as, offering vegetarian and vegan options, using sustainable fish and free water refills.
Primary and secondary schools are also encouraged to join the scheme. Schools will receive bespoke materials that fit the National Food Standards to support healthier school lunches.
Join the pledge
All Essex-based businesses that serve food are encouraged to join.
This is a great way for independent businesses to make a commitment to their customers’ health and follow some national chain companies in serving and promoting healthier food options.
Anchor Fish and Chips in Ongar has recently joined TuckIN. The takeaway business has committed to frying in better oils, limiting added salt, using standardised portions and offering water alongside low-calorie soft drinks.
There are also 4 schools in the district that have signed up to TuckIN.

Wonderful opportunity
Cllr Ken Williamson, Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services said:
I am so delighted Epping Forest District Council continues to be a part of this campaign and is working with local businesses offering support and training with a matter that affects us all.
It is great to see that more businesses and schools in the district are making the pledge and joining the TuckIN scheme.
TuckIN presents a wonderful opportunity to promote local businesses that offer alternatives to food with a high fat, salt or sugar content. It will encourage residents to make choices that will improve their health, reducing costs to the NHS and also help to cut food waste.
