Information for pilots

Digest of the airfield flying orders

  • All movements will be under Visual Flight Rules;
    • Visibility: At least 1500 m (Estimated)
    • Cloud base: At least 500 ft agl (Estimated)
    • Snow / Ice: Runway surfaces visible conditions will be assessed by Airfield Operations and unofficial observations passed to aircrew/pilots. The decision on whether the runway is suitable for use when contaminated by snow or ice is at the discretion of the Operations Team.
  • Pilots departing, arriving or on circuit details should avoid flying over Epping and any villages or housing in the vicinity of the Airfield.
  • Circuit height 1,200 feet on the QNH (900 feet QFE, which is available on request).
  • No more than four aircraft shall carry out circuit details at any one time;
  • Visiting traffic requesting circuits must obtain permission from Control Tower before commencing a circuit detail;
  • No circuits before 09:00 and after 18:30 local time or sunset, whichever is earlier;
  • Jet circuit flying is restricted to two sessions of three circuits, these sessions are to take place between 1000 – 1300 and 1300 – 1700. Sessions must be pre-booked with The Control Tower. Missed approaches will count as full circuits;
  • No engines will be started up prior to 0830 local time;
  • Helicopters and other rotary wing aircraft should adopt conventional fixed wing joining and circuit procedures unless otherwise agreed with the Control Tower;
  • The Herts Air Ambulance operates from North Weald. When using the callsign Helimed 55 Alpha it has priority over all other traffic in the circuit, which must give way or go around as it departs on task.
  • No flight planned arrivals or departures after 18:00 local time or sunset, whichever is earlier to allow for overdue action to be taken if necessary. Aircraft arriving after sunset will be instructed to divert to their alternate aerodrome.

Landing fees

All visiting aircraft are now charged Landing Fees. These can be paid online or paid to members of the Operations Team on the day. (They will come out to you).

(There will be NO charge for military, Police or Air Ambulance aircraft or aircraft arriving for maintenance at Aero Vintage or Weald aviation.

Airfield Operating Times: Winter: 08:30 – SS Summer 08:30 – 18:30
