Recycling bin roll out has begun

Recycling bin roll out has begun

Housing, planning and environment news, News

The roll out of the new blue-lidded recycling bins started on Monday 2 June.

Not everyone will have received their new wheeled bin this week as deliveries are being done in stages throughout June and July in line with collection days to limit disruption.

Start using it straight away

Once your new bin arrives, you can start using it straight away. There’s no need to wait in for the delivery of your new bin, it will be left on your property boundary – just like a normal bin collection day.

Each household will be given a 240-litre recycling bin, which is 60-litres larger than the black refuse bin. Residents should be able to fit the equivalent of approximately 6 bags of recycling in their bin as long as items go in loose and are flattened down as much as possible.

There is no charge for the bin, however if you need to replace your bin at a later date there may be a fee.

A new bin will not be delivered to those who participated in the trial. Those residents can continue to use their blue-lidded recycling bin as usual.

What goes in your new recycling bin

All your recycling now goes in your new blue-lidded recycling bin. You no longer need to use recycling sacks or the blue box for recycling.

Items that can be recycled in the blue-lidded bin:

  • Glass bottles and jars (lids can be kept on)
  • Food tins and drink cans
  • Clean paper, card and shredded paper
  • Plastic household bottles, food trays, containers and tubs
  • Aluminium foil and foil containers
  • Aerosol cans
  • Tetra Paks™ and other food cartons

Residents can keep their old recycling blue box to use as storage, or put it out with the refuse collection, or take it to their local recycling centre.
