Single-use vape ban now in place
The ban of single-use vapes started on 1 June 2025. It is now illegal for businesses to sell or supply single-use vapes, also known as disposable vapes.
Single-use vapes have non-rechargeable batteries and cannot be refilled.
This ban is a crucial step forward in protecting public health and the environment. As part of the Tobacco and Vapes Bill, it will help tackle waste and make vaping less accessible to under 18-years-olds.
Information for businesses
The ban applies to all businesses and organisations that sell or supply single-use vapes online or in shops, including:
- Retailers – such as convenience stores, market stalls, petrol stations, specialist vape shops and supermarkets
- Manufacturers
- Wholesalers
- Healthcare settings and stop smoking services
Trading Standards is leading on enforcing the ban and has the power to seize any disposal vapes they find and apply a civil sanction, including a £200 fine. Repeat offenders will risk being charged with an unlimited fine or potential prison sentence.
If you are a business and have any leftover single-use vapes, you need to separate them from other goods and label them as unsellable.
Businesses can find information about the ban and how to recycle single-use vapes on the GOV.UK website.
Report to Trading Standards
If you have concerns or suspect that someone is supplying single-use vapes, report it online to Trading Standards on the Citizens Advice website.
