Over 80 passengers enjoyed their journey aboard the summer memory train.
The day trip was for residents in the district living with dementia or mild cognitive impairment to enjoy with a friend, family member or carer.
Passengers enjoyed a short trip from North Weald to Ongar and back again on the Epping Ongar Railway with entertainment and a spot of lunch.
The free event gave travellers the opportunity to reminisce, take in the beautiful views of the district’s countryside and learn from Epping Ongar Railway volunteers who shared their exceptional knowledge about the railway.
This was the 3rd memory train trip organised by Epping Forest District Council’s (EFDC) Community Development and Wellbeing team, Epping Ongar Railway and Epping Open Gardens.

Thank you for organising such a wonderful day out. Those with dementia are often forgotten, but today you made them feel worthwhile and part of our community.
Working in partnership
Cllr Smruti Patel, Cabinet Member for Community, Health and Wellbeing said:
The memory train is such a fun idea. It gives those living with dementia and their families a chance to relax and enjoy something different together.
It’s a great example of organisations in the district working in partnership to deliver such a valued event.
Thank you
EFDC Vice Chairman, Cllr Les Burrows who attended the event, said:
It was a great experience walking through the train. I thoroughly enjoyed speaking to both the carers and those with dementia, who had quite a bit to say about all kinds of subjects and are excited for the next event.
A big thank you to all the volunteers, the EFDC Community Development and Wellbeing team, Epping Ongar Railway and Epping Open Gardens.
