Saturday 22 June 2024 marks the 76th Anniversary of the Empire Windrush’s arrival in Britain.
Windrush has come to symbolise the migration of people from the Caribbean to the UK in the post-war era, as well as their descendants.
This generation, subsequent migrants and their descendants have made a significant and lasting contribution to the UK’s cultural, social, and economic life.
Commemorate, celebrate and educate
Cllr Les Burrows, Chairman of Council said:
I am proud to be flying the Windrush Flag from the Civic Offices this year. This day allows us to focus on bringing communities together from across different ages and ethnic backgrounds. It also allows us to commemorate, celebrate and educate ourselves about the contribution of the Windrush Generation and their descendants have made across the United Kingdom.
