Elections and voting
PFCC and parish and town council elections
Voting for the Police Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC) and some parish and town council elections are also taking place on Thursday 2 May 2024.
Police Fire and Crime Commissioner (PFCC)
PFCC elections for 2024 have been simplified. In previous PFCC elections everyone had 2 votes, for a first preference candidate and a second preference candidate.
From 2024, PFCC elections will adopt the same First Past the Post system (FPTP) as used in parliamentary elections. You get only 1 vote and the candidate with the most votes wins.
Parish and town council elections
Your parish or town council may hold elections in 2024. It can be hard to find candidates and contested elections only take place where there are more candidates than vacancies. In uncontested elections parish and town councillors are appointed rather than elected.
As parish and town council elections are all-out elections, you may be asked to vote for several candidates where there are more candidates than vacancies.
