Food safety course
Food business operators are required by law to ensure that food handlers receive appropriate supervision and instruction / training in food hygiene in line with their work activity and enable them to handle food safely.
The Foundation in Food Safety Certificate
We provide the nationally recognised Chartered Institute of Environmental Health, Foundation in Food Safety Certificate. This is equivalent to the Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering.
Our courses are delivered by experienced Environmental Health Officers (EHO’s) who visit catering businesses on a daily basis. There are online courses available but a learning environment with new and experienced caterers and experienced EHO’s ensures a broader learning outcome. As a result, we achieve very high pass rates.
You will gain knowledge in all the key food safety principles including:
- Bacteria and Microbiology
- Requirements for Food Safety Management Systems and HACCP
- Cross contamination
- Temperature control
- Personal Hygiene
- And much more
Courses are run over 2 afternoons from 1:30pm to 5pm.
You must attend both afternoons to complete the course. There is a short 20 question multiple choice assessment at the end of the course.
The course is delivered in a friendly relaxed environment and can be adjusted to accommodate most learners’ needs.

The course fee is £75 per person (until March 2021). It includes 2 afternoon’s tuition, all the course materials, your examination and your certificate.
Courses are held at:
- Civic Offices, 323 High Street, Epping, CM16 4BZ.
There are only 16 places available on each course so please book early. Your place will be secured as soon as we receive payment. You must give at least 21 days notice of a cancellation or transfer to a later course date. We can only refund your fees if you have given the 21 days notice. See below for course dates available.
