We’re proud to be the first council in the county to introduce Crimestoppers Zones.
Crimestoppers Zones
Limes Estate in Chigwell launched on Monday with Ninefields in Waltham Abbey following on Wednesday 26 October.
This new initiative by the national charity Crimestoppers is aimed at building confidence in local communities about reporting crimes and to deterring criminals from committing offences.
Many people feel reluctant to report crimes to the police or local authorities but Crimestoppers provides anonymity to those providing information.
Essex Police and members of the Epping Forest Community Safety Partnership leafletted homes in Limes Estate on Monday and spoke with residents about the new initiative and how they can get involved.
The Ninefields Waltham Abbey initiative is part of the Safer Streets project which won government and Epping Forest District Council funding over the summer. That campaign will focus closely on drugs and County Lines and how to spot involvement of local people.
Proud to be the first in Essex
Councillor Holly Whitbread, chairman of the Epping Forest Community Safety Partnership said:
We’re very proud to be the first in Essex to introduce Crimestoppers Zones.
We hope this initiative will not only build confidence among communities about reporting crimes to police or the council but also highlight the anonymity of Crimestoppers.
The Crimestoppers Zones programme is funded by the Percy Hoskins Award Scheme which promotes community safety.
Report information 100% anonymously
Crimestoppers regional manager Phil Breckon said:
Very often people in areas where crimes are committed hold the key to what is happening, yet they are too scared to take action for fear of being traced. Crimestoppers gives them the chance to report information 100% anonymously without the fear of being identified in any way.
