Marking Windrush Day 2025
The Windrush flag will be flying outside the Civic Offices in Epping on Sunday 22 June to commemorate and recognise the contribution of the Windrush generation.
The first passengers from the Caribbean arrived on Empire Windrush, at Tilbury docks in 1948 making this year the 77th anniversary.
Commemorate, celebrate and educate
This is a time for people of all generations across communities to come together.
We can celebrate, commemorate, and educate ourselves on the history of Windrush as well as honouring those who left their homes to make the life changing journeys to migrate to the United Kingdom.
I’m extremely pleased to be flying the flag at the Civic Offices to mark a significant part of our history. It’s a time to recognise the cultural contributions made by the Windrush generation on society and the lasting legacy of their families.
Chairman of Epping Forest District Council, Councillor Louise Mead
