“We will not tolerate violent or abusive behaviour towards our staff or contractors.” That was the clear message from Epping Forest District Council following an incident involving a refuse crew in Waltham Abbey.
Refuse collection services were disrupted after refuse crews refused to return to a road after an assault. Jen Gould, the Council’s Chief Operating Officer added:
We would like to thank all the kind residents who have shown their support for our refuse crews and hope there will be no further incidents. We entirely support our refuse crews. No one should go to work in fear of violence or abuse. Anyone who thinks they can break the rules on refuse and recycling or any other council service by intimidating our staff is sorely wrong and puts at risk the delivery of that service.
Epping Forest District Council is reminding residents that any legitimate problems with the refuse service should be reported directly to the Council. Contaminated bins and sacks as well as non-authorised or non-EFDC bins will not be collected. If you are unsure of the materials for each container please look at your calendar or the Council website at:
Jen Gould concluded:
The refuse crews cannot change Council policy. Please leave them to carry out their work. Thank you again to all the kind residents who have shown their support.
