Council Tax
Employed care worker discount
Care workers may be able to claim a discount if you provide care or support on behalf of a local authority, a charity, the Government, or you are employed by the person being cared for. To qualify you must be resident where the care is being given or live in premises provided by your employer. You must work at least 24 hours a week and earn no more than £44 a week before deductions.
A Council Tax bill is based on at least 2 adults living in a property. Discounts do not apply if at least 2 people over 18 who live in the same property are counted for Council Tax purposes.
If after discounting occupants there remains only 1 occupant, then a discount of 25% of the Council Tax bill may be given.
You must continue to pay Council Tax in accordance with your bill until your discount has been granted. Failure to do so may result in recovery action which could incur costs. Without the full information and all supporting documents we will not be able to award the discount.
