Clinical waste
Clinical waste includes:
- Blood or bodily fluids
- Excretions
- Drugs or other pharmaceutical products
- Swabs or dressings
- Syringes, needles or other sharp instruments
Non-hazardous clinical / medical waste
Non-hazardous clinical / medical waste includes:
- Incontinence pads
- Catheter bags
- Non-infectious dressings
These can be disposed of in your black wheeled bin.
If you are finding your current rubbish and recycling collections are not coping with the amount of clinical / medical waste you are producing please complete the below from along with your health care professional.
And post it to:

We may be able to increase your bins capacity. Processing applications can take up to 2 weeks and we will inform you of the outcome.
Hazardous clinical waste
This can only be collected by specialised companies, who have staff trained to collect the waste in a modified and licensed vehicle.
All hazardous clinical waste must be incinerated and must not be disposed of in your wheeled bin.
If you need a separate collection of clinical waste we can arrange for a private contractor to collect your clinical waste. To do this we need you and your health care professional to fill in the clinical waste referral form below.

Once we have received your referral form it can take us up to 15 working days to process the form.
