Great news, we have successfully bid for funding to install external wall insulation free of charge to selected homes in the Epping Forest district.
Working with E.ON, some council homes will be assessed to see if they qualify for energy efficient improvements that will help reduce energy bills and carbon emissions.
The funding comes from the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) which aims to improve the energy performance of socially rented homes.
Benefits of external wall insulation
External wall insulation can reduce heating costs considerably as well as:
- Help create a warmer and more comfortable home
- Lower carbon footprints
- Protect homes from heat loss
- Improve property appearance and weather proofing
Residents will be contacted by letter
Residents whose homes potentially qualify for the scheme will receive a letter from Epping Forest District Council. All work is subject to survey to ensure homes are suitable for the upgrades.
What happens next?
E.ON experts will telephone residents whose homes have been identified for the upgrade to arrange an internal and external survey of the property. All E.On and Epping Forest District Council employees will carry ID. Residents should ask to see it before allowing anyone into their home.
Residents do not need to change energy supplier to take advantage of the free insulation offer.
Homes that will last for the future
Councillor Holly Whitbread, Cabinet Member for Housing and Strategic Health Partnerships said:
Winning this funding is great news. This Government grant will help to make some homes in the district more energy efficient and support the council’s aim to reduce carbon emissions to become a greener and cleaner district.
The insulation will help keep the heat inside the house and reduce energy bills, benefiting residents by providing them with warm, energy efficient homes that will last for the future.
