Article 4 directions

Certain types of building works and changes of use of buildings do not require full planning permission from the council. These forms of development are called permitted development.

Planning Portal: Permitted development rights

An article 4 direction is a special planning regulation adopted by a local planning authority in all or part of their borough which removes permitted development rights from whatever is specified in the article 4 direction.

The effect of these article 4 directions is that planning permission is required for these developments that would otherwise not require an application for planning permission. Each of the following directions applies to land as shown on the plans attached to the relevant direction below.

  • AD01 Staples Road, Loughton
  • AD02 York Hill, Loughton
  • AD03 Parklands, Waltham Abbey
  • AD04 Lee Valley Nursery, Waltham Abbey
  • AD05 Packsaddles Farm, Waltham Abbey
  • AD06 Little Stiles, Nazeing
  • AD07 Back Lane, Sheering
