Local response to our appeal for donations for Ukrainian refugees has been overwhelming.
We have been inundated with items since the donations Hub at our civic offices in Epping opened on Thursday.
Donate online
The most effective way you can support the Ukraine Humanitarian operation is to donate online to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC). It is an umbrella organisation for the many registered charities delivering aid to the millions of people who have been forced to flee their homes.
Shelter, food and water are key priorities that can best be provided by monetary donations to the charities on the ground via the DEC.
Government to match public donations
The government is match funding public donations through the DEC. One of the charities, Save the Children is providing cash and vouchers to families to meet basic needs like food and medicines. Oxfam says donations mean they can work with organisations already in Ukraine and neighbouring countries to help meet the needs of people who have already lost so much.
You can help provide food, water, shelter and healthcare to Ukranian refugees and displaced families by donating to:
- Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Appeal
- Ukraine Humanitarian Fund UN Crisis Relief
- Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal
Donation hub
The donations hub at the Civic Offices remains open until Saturday and residents can still take items along if they are unable to make online donations.
Baby food and items such as nappies and baby clothes are priorities, followed by first aid and medical supplies, army surplus clothing / footwear and pet food.
