We keep a register of known private water supplies in our district. If you are buying or renting a property then you may want to check with us if the vendor or landlord has:
- A registered private water supply with the council
- Treatment systems
- Formal risk assessment
- Regular and recent water quality testing
- Any historic or present enforcement notices served
- Any outstanding actions which require the supply to meet regulatory standards
- If you are renting a property the landlord has a duty to provide safe drinking water
Selling a property
It may be necessary to get a water quality testing report and risk assessment to ensure the supply is safe. (more…)

Private water supplies regulations requires the council to carry out a risk assessment at least once every 5 years or any newly registered supply. Risk assessments can be carried out by the council or by an approved and qualified contractor who has obtained permission from the council. (more…)

Highway ranger service

In partnership with Essex County Council and Essex Highways the Highway Rangers carry out minor highway maintenance works around the district. This includes trimming vegetation at the side of the road, repairing and cleaning road signs.
The Highway Rangers generally only work on roads of 30mph and below and undertake minor highway maintenance works. Major highway works such as pothole repair should still be reported to Essex Highways. (more…)
